Brooker, George

George BrookerCourse: BA English and Theatre Studies

Graduated: 2018

Job Title/ Company: Commisioning Editorial Assistant, Octopus Publishing

Date of Case Study: August 2020

Biography: After Graduating, I tried my hand at various career paths before finding the right fit. In the first instance, I returned to my old school to try out teaching before quickly realising it wasn’t for me. I then completed a two-week work experience placement at BBC Radio which led to me picking up freelance work as a researcher and runner for the arts desk there. It was during this time I came to realise that working with books was my true passion so I started to steer my career more towards this. After leaving the BBC I worked in the press office at the Hay Literary Festival before securing a three-month internship at the publisher Hodder & Stoughton and then moving on to a full-time position at Octopus Publishing as an editorial assistant where I have just commissioned my first book.
