Responsive Curriculum Cards

About the cards

Responsive Curriculum Cards are grounded in the understanding that a responsive curriculum plays a vital role in connecting with and challenging wider social, cultural, and economic issues in any given context. As such, they are purposefully crafted, theory- and research-informed critical prompts that aim to support curriculum developers in higher education to embed principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) into the fabric of their programmes and modules.

Each card features a question and suggested action point focused on one of four EDI themes (epistemic justice, gender equity, racial equity, neurodiversity) in the context of one of four design elements (learning outcomes, assessment, learning activities, cross-cutting design thinking).

Ready? Start with the below question to warm up:

In what ways does your curriculum perpetuate or disrupt epistemic injustice, and how might you reframe the learning outcomes, assessment, and learning activities to reflect the pluralism of gendered, racial, and neurodiverse ways of knowing?

How to use the cards

The cards can be used in any way that fits your design context best – e.g., as prompts for individual reflection, collaborative curriculum evaluation, or a conversation with co-designers.

You can focus on one theme (e.g., gender equity) at a time, or on one design element (e.g., learning activities) across all themes, or simply go for it all.
