Charlotte completed her PhD in English, focused on the cultural history of taste, in 2004. She briefly taught English and American Studies at the University of Gloucestershire before joining the Open University in 2005, where she spent 18 years in a number of roles, broadly based in the delivery of subject-based educational advice and guidance, quality assurance and enhancement, management of systems and professional development. She led on the evaluation of large-scale development events for the university’s 4500+ associate lecturers, and on the training and development of associate lecturers in new systems.

Charlotte joined the University of Warwick as Assistant Professor (Digital Education) in May 2023, where she co-led the PGA TEL during its final year of presentation. She co-designed and co-leads the PGA Digital Education and works across ADC programmes, providing design support for the development of Moodle courses and spaces. She also teaches on MD969: Learning Technologies in Healthcare Education. In addition she is an APP EXP mentor, and assesses across all of ADC's Pathways to accreditation.

As evaluation lead for ADC, Charlotte is engaged in a number of initiatives designed to gauge the impact of academic development programmes, events and projects.

She is a WIHEA fellow and co-leads the DETTA Learning Circle. She is also leading on evaluation for the Building Belonging Learning Circle.

From 2022-2026, Charlotte was an editor of Open Learning: The Journal of Open, Distance and e-Learning. She recently joined the editorial board, where she is leading a mentoring scheme to support new reviewers to develop peer review skills. She peer reviews for a number of journals including the International Journal for Academic Development and Innovations in Education and Teaching International and is part of the SEDA Special Papers committee.

She is an Associate member of the Association of Learning Technology, and part of #creativeHE.

Interests

Charlotte is engaged in research focused on evaluation and evidencing impact. She is also interested in understanding the digital learning experience from different perspectives, as well as arts-based approaches to teaching and learning, in particular using craft as a means of reflection.
