The Art of Directing
The Art of Directing : May 6th 2008
A showcase and forum for student directors
The Art of Directing was a collaborative venture between The CAPITAL Centre and WUDS (Warwick University Drama Society) and aimed to explore the links between academia and student drama, and to give student directors the chance to experiment with ideas and get feedback from peers and professionals
The evening was split into two parts:
1) The Showcase. Each group will presented a pre-prepared 20 minute performance of a scene or scenes of their choice.
2) The Forum. A discussion followed, in which the pieces were discussed by the audience and panel of professionals, providing constructive feedback for all groups.
The Art of Directing was designed to be a friendly and open evening, a chance to try out simple ideas, works-in-progress or new techniques and share tips and advice. It gave directors a chance to collaborate instead of working in isolation, and to learn from each other and from professionals, developing skills and knowledge.
The event was attended by academics and students from across the Warwick Community, the panel was chaired by Prof Carol Rutter (CAPITAL Centre Director) and included Jenn Markowitz (Theatre Studies), Tom Cornford (CAPITAL Artist in Residence 2008/09) and Jonathan Heron (CAPITAL Research Associate and Artistic Director of CAPITAL Company in Residence).
