Lope de Vega wrote his play Castelvines y Monteses between 1606 and 1612, drawing on a Spanish translation of Matteo Bandello’s story of two unhappy lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare used an English version of the same story for his play which was first published in 1597.

Alison Cartledge: Designer
Her work has mostly been in theatre, but has also ventured into corporate design: working for Diageo and Guinness; trade fairs and interior design; and fete champetres for the National Trust. Design work for the theatre includes: The Real Thing (Strindberg’s Intima Theatre, Stockholm); The Marriage of Figaro (Music Theatre London); Fruit Salad (Greenwich Theatre and Hackney Empire); Emi Ijo (Badego Arts); Long Time No See and Flyin’ West (Talawa Theatre Company); Cued Up, When Snow Falls, Tuna Girl, Gotcha!, Baa Moo Yellow Dog (Half Moon Theatre); Of Thee I Sing (Bridewell Theatre); The Rink (Orange Tree Theatre, Richmond); La Folie (Scarlet Theatre Company); Carmen, The Impresario and La Boheme (Clonter Opera); Last Tango (Royal Opera House Garden Venture); The King and I (Covent Garden Festival) and Dames at Sea (Ambassadors Theatre). Pantomime includes: Aladdin (Waterman’s Arts Centre) and Cinderella (Freud Theatre, Los Angeles), Aladdin, Jack and the Beanstalk, Robin Hood, Sleeping Beauty (New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich). Alison trained in Theatre Design at the Central School of Art & Design. She is associated with drama schools, both as designer and tutor at Guildhall, RADA and CSSD.

Kate works as an actress and fight director. Her work includes Lord and Ladies: Terry Pratchett Fantasy; Treasure Island; Twelfth Night, Coriolanus and King Lear (The Tobacco Factory)
