CIM Summer School 2026
Refusing AI: From Critique to Alternative Futures
About the Summer School
When AI is increasingly framed as inevitable, this Summer School offers space to critically think otherwise. It approaches so-called AI as a contested sociotechnical and political formation, to be deconstructed and troubled through collective and creative practice. Across talks, seminars, participatory sessions, and making activities, we will explore both the refusal of toxic technologies and the possibilities of alternatives. Themes will include AI hype and inevitability, refusal and resistance, surveillance, labour, and techno-futures.
The Summer School is part of a collaboration between the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies (University of Warwick) and the Just Sustainability Design Lab (University of Toronto), taking place between 15 - 17 June 2026, at the Warwick campus.
