BCUR 2017: call for papers

Warwick BLASTER team facilitate five-day 'Best Practice in Undergraduate Research' training event
Members of the BLASTER (Best Liberal Arts and Science Teaching Expanded and Reinforced) team from Warwick facilitated a five-day event in October at Leuphana University, Germany, where staff and student experts from European partner institutions showcased best practice in undergraduate research, and formed small research teams to continue the exploration of innovations in this area.
Emerge Festival 2016

Warwick graduates Barrel Organ Theatre Company curate a festival of theatre: through panels, performances and discussions, they address questions of political assembly, social expression and professional development. This project is an annual event that showcases the IATL Student Ensemble and its alumni network of emerging artists and practitioners.
A Being ObJECTIVE: preview screening and discussion

This short film, which uniquely includes drawings from students and staff across different university departments, playfully questions how objective we can really be in research. It is an IATL-funded project, a collaboration between artist in residence in the Chemistry Department, Mary Courtney, independent film-maker-animator Laurence Campbell, and academics and students from a range of disciplines.
The Oculus: drop-in sessions
IATL team members will be available in The Oculus 12:30-14:00 on the Wednesday of Weeks 3 & 4 to discuss the potential for innovative pedagogy in the new flexible spaces.
What is Warwick doing to address the challenges faced by cities and the people that live in them?

This Sustainable Cities GRP event will celebrate UN World Cities Day by showcasing cities research at Warwick. It will offer the opportunity to advance university-wide relationships and to learn more about research opportunities linked to cities. The IATL-funded project 'Paving the way towards a Warwick Humanitarian Engineering Centre' will feature.
International Conference of Undergraduate Research (ICUR) 2016
On 27 and 28 September, the 4th annual ICUR connected over 500 students, through 60 international sessions, on 5 continents. The event – organised by IATL staff in collaboration with colleagues in Australia, Japan, Singapore, the US, the UK, South Africa and Malaysia – saw 325 students from all disciplines presenting their research via video conference links to their peers around the world.
IATL staff funding deadline: 14 October 2016
Due to the high number of excellent applications we received in May, the available funding for the October round is lower than usual and so we are restricting funding awards to Pedagogic Interventions (up to £1,000 each). We hope to have more funding available for the next round, in May 2017.
A New World Out of Nothing

This interactive, interdisciplinary workshop will tell the story of how a non-Euclidean geometry was created in the 19th century, "out of nothing", explore how it influenced the arts, literature and fiction, and how it is the basis of some fundamental discoveries in physics, such as relativity. No prior knowledge of mathematics is required.
Reinvention: an International Journal of Undergraduate Research - call for papers
We invite submissions to these two forthcoming issues:
• Volume 10 Issue 1 (to be published April 2017), from all undergraduates;
• BLASTER Special Issue (to be published July 2017), from undergraduates at Warwick and selected European universities.
