Fragmented Research Workflows in Undergraduate Education: Evaluating Multi-Platform Practices, Organisation Breakdowns, and their Impact on Research

Fragmented Research Workflows in Undergraduate Education: Evaluating Multi-Platform Practices, Organisation Breakdowns, and their Impact on Research

Lead: Francis Amegbor

2025/2026

Summary

Undergraduate students rely on multiple disconnected platforms to conduct research, including Google Scholar, Word, Notion, Zotero, and ChatGPT. This fragmented workflow often leads to students losing track of papers, references, and notes, causing delays and reducing the quality of their work. This project investigates how Warwick undergraduates manage multi-platform research, identifies key organisational and workflow challenges, and evaluates their impact on productivity and output quality. Using surveys, interviews, and workflow mapping, the study will generate evidence-based insights and propose a conceptual framework for a unified research system to improve the undergraduate research experience.
