What are the factors preventing students from considering careers in Psychological Academic Research?

Summary
Our research project aims to uncover factors deterring psychology students from pursuing careers in psychological research. Psychology undergraduates will complete a survey to explore correlations between their intention to pursue Psychological Academic Research careers and factors like self-efficacy, and various perceptions of research careers and psychology as a whole. Additionally, focus groups will provide deeper insight into students’ perspectives. This study addresses issues of access and representation in psychological research, aiming to identify and mitigate barriers faced by students. This work has broader implications for educational practices, informing strategies to support a more inclusive pipeline of future psychological researchers.
