Psychology Employability Champions Impact Report 2023
Psychology Employability Champions Impact Report 2023
Dr. Gitit Kadar-Satat
2022-2023
Summary
Recommendations from the Department's WIHEA Co-creation Employability Challenge 2021 submission show that Psychology students would benefit from learning about diverse employability pathways (e.g., case studies from psychology alumni in non-chartered psychology career like HR, Marketing, and Data Science). Furthermore, consultations with Psychology students show that they would benefit from more guidance on where to start with their employability journey, how to sift through large amounts of information, and whether specific opportunities are likely to advance their career aspirations. This IATL project will engage a group of current students to co-create resources and act as Employability Champions. Three students will be recruited for the project. They will lead the implementation of the above recommendations by:
- Developing three employability pathway guides for psychology students, with examples of non-traditional career options.
- Creating three video case studies featuring examples of Psychology alumni, to showcase what employability looks like in Psychology.
- Developing three video case studies featuring employers speaking on how you can use your transferable skills and knowledge of Psychology in non-chartered jobs.
- Liaising with the Department's Student Experience Champions and using department social media and other outlets (e.g. Psychology Student Voice Newsletter) to signpost students to existing and new employability resources developed by the Department, University, and beyond (e.g. the Warwick Award). Collecting current students' feedback on the new resources and developing ideas on how to further support skills development and employability in the Department and UoW.
- Writing and submitting a summary report at the end of the project to describe and evaluate the project, including recommendations for future developments.
The applicant will mentor and support the Champions through bi-weekly group meetings and via email, as and when needed. The applicant will seek ethical approval from either IATL or the Department for the case studies and student feedback prior to collecting any information from the individuals involved. The applicant will share recommendations from this project with the wider UoW community through the Placement Practice Group and present their learning and experience of co-creating employability resources at the 2023 ASET annual conference.
