Interdisciplinary Assessment

Interdisciplinary Assessment

The assessment of interdisciplinary modules should consider how effectively the student has integrated the knowledge and perspectives of two or more disciplines in a way that has resulted in cognitive advancement. Some key areas to consider when designing and developing interdisciplinary assessments are:

  • The selection of an appropriate method of assessment that is inclusive to students from all disciplinary backgrounds.
  • The balance between the breadth and depth of the assessment
  • The involvement of multiple perspectives and sources of evidence.
  • The development of a shared language to bridge disciplinary gaps and enhance mutual understanding.
  • The support of and scaffolding of the assessment process.
  • The support for students with differing learning needs.
  • The ability of students to bring their own knowledge and identities to the assessment project.
