Finding Intersectional Creativity through Interdisciplinary Student Experiences

Introduction

Interdisciplinarity is...

“My biggest take away from interdisciplinarity is to be able to not only take different disciplines and bring them together, but also to be able to bring different aspects of yourself together”

Nikita Asnani, a former Warwick student in Economics and graduate of the MSc in Humanitarian Engineering, IATL officer and fellow at the Warwick Institute for Engagement, discusses her trajectory of engaging with interdisciplinarity at Warwick. She shares about her experience taking Dr Bo Kelestyn’s IATL module on Design Thinking, designing a refugee camp as part of the Master’s in Humanitarian Engineering, developing a podcast series for a WIHEA project on Empowering Authentic Student Voices, and coming to find her own voice through coining the term “intersectional creativity.” Nikita’s work beautifully shows the possibilities for depth and breadth, as well as the potential for creativity, confidence and personal connection to be nurtured through interdisciplinary experiences.

“The fact that I did pure econ I don't think I had that space for creative exploration and developing my creative confidence... it was just that need for something more that led me to exploring what's on offer outside of my home department.”

“what I'm saying about intersectional creativity, it is about bringing your whole self to the table.”
