From Education Studies to Wellbeing: Building an Interdisciplinary Student Community at IATL
Summary
Interdisciplinarity is...
“Bringing things together to shape our understanding and to shape our solutions going forward to various topics and problems”
Wiki discusses her journey with interdisciplinary learning at Warwick, particularly her involvement with the Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning (IATL). Through her experience as both a student on IATL’s Understanding Wellbeing module, and a co-creation officer at IATL, Wiki shares how she gained key skills in critical thinking as well as discovered the benefits of collaborating with and learning from students and academics from different disciplinary backgrounds.
Wiki ends by sharing what she has learned from talking to other students and staff members, namely that students appreciate when their professors can be vulnerable and recognize that they might not hold all the answers to questions in an interdisciplinary space. While there is still work to be done on further promoting the amazing opportunities offered at IATL, Wiki acknowledges that Warwick is taking steps to ensure that student and staff alike are aware of the benefits of interdisciplinary teaching and learning.
