Case Study Module on Understanding Society, Warwick Foundation Studies

Lucy Ryland

Assistant Professor-Course Director, Warwick Foundation Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences

For her PGA case study, Lucy examined her foundation level module on Understanding Society, where students are equipped with a “social science” toolkit to be able understand and assess current societal issues such as food or migration through a variety of social science disciplines, namely anthropology, economics, sociology, politics, human geography and psychology. For their assessment, students are asked to create a five minute film analysing a societal issue through different social science perspectives, reflective blog posts, and a response to a case study on a societal issue analysed through an interdisciplinary approach.
