Local/Global Shakespearience
Assessment
On Local/Global Shakespearience, you have the opportunity to create fresh and exciting responses to the work of William Shakespeare in contexts relevant to the playwright’s position about the national and international stage. You’ll create a new podcast which can respond to a single aspect of the module, from Shakespeare’s presence in video games and popular music, to how his work has been used to address issues of sustainability. You might also choose to create a fictional podcast which adapts a single Shakespeare play within the context of radio drama or comedy. You’ll also work as part of a team to produce a presentation which offers a creative reinvention of Shakespeare’s work, accompanied by a reflective journal, which should explore your own Shakespearience throughout the module. Examples to date have included an immersive Macbeth escape room, a Shakespearean sketch comedy show, and a business pitch for a new Shakespeare-themed holiday and experience package. These assessments are designed to ignite your creativity, to help you think outside the box about what Shakespeare means in local and global contexts, and to explore the playwright’s work in contexts beyond those of literature and performance.
