Understanding Wellbeing
Assessment
Assessment 1 Academic Writing Piece of 1500 words or 2-4 minutes video accompanied by a 400-word commentary
Understanding the theory behind the concept of wellbeing is the first focus of this module. After exploring what wellbeing means, we examine factors which affect the wellbeing of different populations, for example, wealth and poverty, genetics, education and so on. The first assessment reflects this theoretical focus through an essay or conference-style presentation which explores the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to improving wellbeing.
Assessment 2 Student Devised Assessment made up of a ‘Creative Piece’ and an ‘Accompanying Piece’ (up to 1500 words)
The second part of the module focuses on practice and on some of the many approaches which can be taken by individuals to improve their own wellbeing. For example, many people benefit from yoga or meditation while others find greater benefit from engaging in artistic pursuits or visiting wilderness areas. The Student Devised Assessment reflects this individual experience of wellbeing by allowing students to choose their own media and wellbeing topic to develop a Creative Piece. This is supported by an Accompanying Piece which describes how and why the Creative Piece was devised and demonstrates scholarly engagement with the theories and practices of the module.
The assignments are weighted equally (50% each).
