Nusantara Journey

Yasmin Putri

As a system engineer passionate about wellbeing, sustainability, and cultural narratives, I create interactive projects that blend research with storytelling. My work explores complex societalthemes through accessible and engaging formats, aiming to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and everyday experiences.

About the Project

Nusantara Journey is an interactive project that explores the concept of wellbeing across different life stages in Indonesia. Rooted in a collectivist society with strong religious and cultural influences, the project examines how wellbeing manifests from childhood to old age. It highlights key cultural themes such as spirituality, social support, acceptance, and the fulfillment of basic needs.

The project takes the form of a mobile-friendly prototype, ensuring accessibility and engagement. Instead of traditional charts, it employs icons and visual storytelling to represent health, stress levels, and emotions, making abstract concepts more relatable. The transition slides between life stages allow users to pause and reflect, enhancing the narrative’s coherence.

The central character, Dian, was designed to be genderless and faceless, enabling users to project their own experiences onto the story. The visual aesthetic follows the progression of a day, with changing sky colours symbolizing different life stages. By blending research with storytelling, Nusantara Journey bridges the gap between academic insights and personal experiences. It serves as a testament to the power of artistic expression in promoting discussions on wellbeing, offering an immersive and culturally resonant exploration of the Indonesian experience.
