What is the module about?
This is the fully ONLINE, asynchronous version of the long-standing face-to-face IATL module ‘Global Connections: A Transdisciplinary Approach (EUTOPIA) also on offer in Term 1 (2025/26). Study, learn and engage at your own pace, in a guided and supported manner!
Globalisation has changed our perspectives and experiences of the world through multidimensional, fluid and complex processes that interlink cultural, economic, ideological, political, social and environmental factors. In our increasingly interconnected world, the importance of developing, promoting and enhancing our intercultural awareness and understanding of global connections shouldn’t be underestimated. In the wake of counter-globalisation forces and the continuing rise of the national populist movement, a rich and pluralistic appreciation and understanding of 'the global' will be relevant to all Warwick graduates in their personal and professional lives.
Global Connections (Online) offers a transdisciplinary approach to learning through an innovative and research-led online format which encourages students to share insights as co-collaborators, and engage with new knowledges from both inside and outside the academic world. Multimodal activities guide the online learning experience on this module – including an exciting series of audio/video/text-based contributions from experts who are engaged in globally-oriented projects across a range of professional landscapes. Students are exposed to a diverse range of voices on this module that will showcase the exciting breadth of perspectives and approaches to globally-oriented issues, and that will underscore the range of vast complexity associated with global (dis)connections. Students are encouraged to reflect upon and integrate their own disciplinary excellence, and personal and professional experiences into their learning journey as they examine a diverse range of globally-oriented themes throughout the module.
**Note that this module does not feature the EUTOPIA cross-institutional collaborative experience – for this, please see the in-person module, Global Connections: A Transdisciplinary Approach (EUTOPIA).

1) Reflective e-Portfolio (40%)

The e-Portfolio will include responses to modular content (e.g. workshops, readings, peer reviews), your wider learning (e.g. transdisciplinarity), and track the development of your ideas and resources towards the production of your final SDA piece.
2) Student Devised Assessment (60%)
This is an inter/transdisciplinary research project demonstrated through a negotiated format. This will be the final piece of assessed work you submit (2,500 words or equivalent).
