Departments' authorisation policies

If your department is listed below
  • Authorisation required: please reply to the email acknowledgement you receive after completing the request form, copying in the person/people listed for your department and asking them to reply all with their authorisation.
  • No authorisation required: you do not need to do anything beyond submitting your request, at this stage.
  • If you require a signature for an Unusual Options form, come to the IATL main office, Senate House, room 2.01

Please reply to the email acknowledgement you receive after completing the request form, copying in your Personal Tutor OR Director of Undergraduate Studies OR Departmental Administrator (as seems appropriate in your home department), and ask them to reply all with their authorisation.

Applied Linguistics No -
Chemistry Yes - an appropriate module may be taken in Year 2, Year 3 or Year 4 (either as a replacement for a Chemistry option or an overload) subject to permission from Personal Tutor and Director of Undergraduate Studies.

An unusual option form must be completed, with relevant approval attachments, no later than the end of Week 3 of Term 1. Please see the Chemistry UG Handbook Chapter 4.6 for more details. Enquiries can be made to chem-undergraduate@warwick.ac.uk.

Economics No. Economics students may take a maximum of 15 CATS of IATL modules over their 2nd and final years combined from an approved list of modules.  
Education Studies No, but students should give information about IATL modules when they submit the department module choice form.  
English and Comparative Literary Studies Yes. Students to contact Personal Tutor for permission.

Law No, but students doing Law with Humanities or Law with Social Studies cannot take IATL modules  
Liberal Arts No -
Life Sciences

No. Final year students can take one IATL module as part of their 120-credit module choices. To take a second IATL module, you would have to over-credit, which would require approval by the SLS Director of Undergraduate Studies. Second year students are only permitted to choose an IATL module by over-crediting, requiring approval by the SLS Director of Undergraduate Studies.

Once you have submitted your expression of interest to IATL, complete the Psychology Outside Options Request form for your year to gain approval from the Psychology DUGS. (A screenshot of your expression of interest is suitable evidence)

Theatre and Performance Studies No -
Warwick Business School Yes. You will need to apply to IATL using the online form AND also complete an Unusual Options form in WBS. The Unusual Options form will need signing by your Course Director and returning to the Undergraduate Office. WBS Undergraduate Office – room 0.003, (undergraduate at wbs dot ac dot uk)
Warwick Medical School - BSc Health and Medical sciences course No

Students in Year 2 are permitted to select one 15 CAT module per term : authorisation not required.
