Research Interests

My research group investigates the challenges of climate change to important marine phytoplankton groups. Therefore, we combine microbiology with analytical chemistry and physiological measurement. A particular focus lies on the effects of changes in nutrient availability and what this means in the context of membrane lipid remodelling, a cellular response mechanism to nutrient limitation. Changes in lipid composition can potentially affect membrane functioning and lipid-protein interactions. Therefore, we aim to quantify the extent of these changes, their effects on the membrane as well as the functions of specific lipids using established and new techniques to better understand membrane-level biological processes.
