Deogratias Ikemere

I joined Chemistry department at Warwick University in October, 2017 for Msc in Analytical Science and Instrumentation and completed the course in September 2018.

Current Msc. Project: Analytical Method Development in Metalloproteomics and Metallomics (Modelling zinc speciation in serum). Instruments used here are ; Fast protein liquid Chromatography(FPLC) and Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS) I worked on this project under the close supervision of Dr. Claudia Blindauer and supported by Dr. James Covadale. During this study we established that EDTA can remove zinc from the column, zinc co-elutes with albumin and FFAs can decrease the quantity of zinc co-eluting with albumin.

Msc. Mini Project(Team research project)-Real world analysis: Pharmaceutical products and ingredients. This involved assessment of purity in oral contraceptives; trace metals and active ingredient analysis, under the supervision of Dr. Christopher A. Wootton and Dr. Nikola Chmel.

Instruments used for the mini project include: Inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy(ICP-OES),High pressure liquid chromatography(HPLC),Thin layer Chromatography(TLC),column Chromatography, UV-Vis Spectrometer,Fourier Transform infra red spectroscopy(FT-IR)

Poster Presentations: GC detector and the Msc. Project.

Other projects done previously.

Profiling of active pharmaceutical metabolites from marine sponges obtained from the ocean, under the supervision of Dr. RuAngelie Edrada-Ebel.Strathclyde institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.

I also briefly voluntered to do a project in Bioanalysis with Dr. Watson at Strathclyde University.

Extraction, identification and isolation of Anthocyanins from Erythrina absynica, under the supervison of Dr. Benard Kiremire, Makarere University, Kampala-Uganda.

Personal Statement

Am entusiastic and passionate about work. I love to work underminimum supervision with employing consult style of management. I can multitask and work for longer hours beyond the mandatory hours of work.
