Linear dichroism

A new method for the measurement of LD data from membranes supported on quartz was recently developed in Nikola, Chmel(Department of Chemistry) Group. The method uses a positionable turntable which allows for rotation of the quartz substrate in order to determine the three-dimensional orientation of lipid probes and peptides/proteins within lipid membranes supported on the substrate. Preliminary data show that it is possible to obtain good quality data from those systems. I am focusing on trying to improve the method to realize a better signal and its application of measuring the orientation of the protein.

Enhancing the Plasmon Resonance Absorption

  • Synthesized a series of M-AuNPs and recorded images via transmission electron microscope (TEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM).
  • Performed the 3D simulations via Lumerical FDTD solutions and matched the conditions with the layer absorbing boundaries.

  • Designed and evaluated a series of activatable DNA probes for miR-150 and disclosed the intracellular localization and distribution in HeLa cells.
  • Analyzed pH-associated binding features of different probes in the mitochondria and performed MTT assays to survey the nuclease stability and cellular uptake of these probes.
