Industry Seminar: Prof Adam Kowalski, Unilever
Concurrent Product-Process Design; Challenges of formulated products.
Professor Adam Kowalski, Director in Digital R&D, Unilever R&D Port Sunlight Laboratory, UK
Abstract: A critical enabler of innovation value and differentiation is the ability to codify ‘knowledge’ into models to continuously improve the efficiency & effectiveness at which we create value for consumers, in a profitable, sustainable & scalable way. Of particular relevance in this talk is the application to the creation, design and scale-up of manufacturing processes. Fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) owe their performance, functionality and aesthetics in part to the formulation and in part to the manufacturing process. As the rate of innovation continues to increase, digital transformation has become an imperative for companies to rethink their approach to innovation. The ability for companies to extract unique value from data and numerical modelling techniques, be it for operational excellence, scientific discovery or new consumer engagement models is at the heart of any digital transformation
