HetSys CDT Research Afternoon 2026 Brings Together Students Across All Cohorts
On 4 March 2026, the HetSys CDT hosted its annual Research Afternoon, bringing together students from across the CDT to share research progress, discuss challenges, and strengthen collaboration across cohorts and disciplines.
Vincent Fletcher (Cohort 4) Nominated for Best Poster Award at MRS Spring Meeting 2026
Vincent Fletcher, a PhD student from Cohort 4 of the HetSys CDT, was recently nominated for the Best Poster Award at the Materials Research Society Spring Meeting 2026.
At the conference, Vincent presented his research on automatic database generation for training Machine Learning Interatomic Potentials (MLIPs), contributing to ongoing advances in computational materials science and machine learning-driven atomistic simulation.
Fraser Birks (Cohort 4 ) Awarded Silver Medal at STEM for BRITAIN Competition
Fraser Birks, a PhD student within the HetSys CDT, recently visited the UK Parliament to compete in the Physics category of the prestigious STEM for BRITAIN poster competition.
Fraser was awarded the silver medal for his research poster exploring how machine learning can be applied within atomistic simulations, recognising the quality and impact of his work within computational and data-driven scientific research.
