Dr Carlo Maino

Dr Carlo Maino is a physicist and computational scientist with a strong interdisciplinary background in scientific modeling, machine learning, and environmental data analysis. A graduate of the HetSys CDT at the University of Warwick, his PhD research focused on accelerating theoretical spectroscopy using machine-learned potentials.

Beyond academia, Carlo has applied his skills to pressing real-world challenges, including enhancing Early Warning Systems for natural hazards in the Swiss Alps through machine learning during his work with CREALP.

Passionate about environmental sustainability, particularly in mountainous and remote regions, Carlo brings a unique blend of fieldwork experience and computational expertise. His work spans natural hazard prediction, alpine ecosystem monitoring, and sustainable energy systems.

Earlier this year, Carlo began a new role focused on sustainable energy transitions, continuing his commitment to impactful science at the intersection of data, the environment, and society.

In addition to his research, Carlo is an experienced educator, having supported learners across academic levels in physics, mathematics, and chemistry.
