Dr Iain Best
Iain Best graduated in July 2025 with a PhD in Computational Physics from the University of Warwick, where his research, supervised by Prof. James Kermode, focused on Uncertainty in Phase Diagram Simulations with Interatomic Potentials. His work quantified how uncertainties in model parameterisation propagate to real-world predictions, with applications ranging from bulk material properties to advanced phase diagram determination.
Iain previously earned an MPhys in Theoretical Physics from Swansea University in 2019, graduating with a Prize for Outstanding Performance. His expertise spans atomistic simulations, statistical uncertainty analysis, and both classical and machine learning interatomic potentials.
He now looks forward to putting his skills and qualifications to good use, tackling complex problems at the interface of physics, materials science, and computational modelling, and delivering insights that bridge theoretical research with practical applications.
