Dr. Matthew Harrison

Matthew Harrison is a hydrogeologist at Piteau Associates Engineering, currently based in Shrewsbury, UK. His work focuses on groundwater flow modelling and subsurface transport phenomena, with practical experience using industry-standard tools such as MODFLOW and QGIS.

Matthew completed his PhD through the Centre for Doctoral Training in Modelling of Heterogeneous Systems (HetSys) at the University of Warwick. His doctoral research concentrated on uncertainty quantification and the propagation of hydraulic conductivity fields across scales, under the supervision of Prof. Mohaddeseh Mousavi-Nezhad and Dr. Thomas Hudson. He gained significant expertise in statistical modelling, neural networks, and Bayesian data-worth analysis.

In addition to his research, Matthew completed a secondment at TAUW Deutschland in Berlin, where he deepened his knowledge of groundwater modelling in an industry context. He also undertook a research placement at the University of Southern California, investigating solute transport in porous media under the guidance of Dr. Felipe de Barros.

Matthew is passionate about applying advanced computational techniques to solve real-world environmental challenges. He brings a strong interdisciplinary background, combining physics, data science, and environmental engineering.
