Please register for scientific computing accounts via the links below. You will first need to be signed in via your Warwick IT services account.
- SCRTP account: Use the Department of your primary supervisor, or their research group if it has a specific entry, as your affiliation.
- SCRTP HPC account: Use the Department of your primary supervisor as your affiliation. Not immediately required, only register when you need high performance computing access.
MacBooks
Your HetSys-provided laptop has a managed MacOS Sequoia operating system. The Post-install script below gives a number of useful packages you likely want to install on your laptop. Please read carefully through the script before running it and comment out package you don’t need (yet).
The script also contains installation information about a few packages that you might be interested in testing, but which have currently been commented out.
Before you run the script, from the Self Service App of Warwick University, we recommend you install:
- Java (! Don't install the Oracle Java, there are license problems)
- MacTex
- Slack
- Teams
- Kyocera Printer and Drivers
We recommend installing Visual Studio Code via the link below:
Visual Studio Code: https://code.visualstudio.com
If you want to use Jmol and VMD, these need to be installed via the following websites:
Jmol: Go to https://jmol.sourceforge.net/download/ and follow the steps to download the package
VMD: Don't forget to cite it! https://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Research/vmd/allversions/cite.html
Download here (you’ll need to set up a user account.) https://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Research/vmd/
Docking Stations
The HetSys desks in the workspace in D215 have been equipped with docking stations that are compatible with the HetSys-provided MacBooks. Upon connecting the USB cable from the docking station to the laptop, you should find it automatically connects to ethernet and the wireless keyboard and mouse.
