HetSys Staff Student Liason Committee
The HetSys Student-Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC) exists to represent the views of students within the CDT and encourage a sense of community.

The committee consists of representatives from each year of PhD students, as well as a Chair and Secretary. Items discussed include, but are not limited to. academic progress, safety, library and IT provision, teaching, careers and skills and social events.
Meetings are held once a term. Past SSLC Agenda items, and documented minutes are sent by email prior to each meeting to the entire HetSys student body.. All HetSys students are welcome to attend or submit their views or agenda items via their course representatives. Refreshments are provided free of charge.
This HetSys SSLC is part of the University SSLC network, including the Physics Postgraduate SSLC, which has produced an effective system of academic representation and feedback for students across the institution.

Academic Convenor - Dr Thomas Hudson
Dr Thomas Hudson is responsible for ensuring that all student academic concerns are communicated effectively to the HetSys Management Team.
SSLC Chair and Cohort 4 Representative - Chantal Baer
Chantal, as Chair, leads on communication between students and staff by chairing all meetings and presenting student feedback. She also coordinates with student reps, advocates for academic improvements, and helps to ensure follow-up on agreed actions. Her role is to represent student voices and support a better learning experience.
Cohort 5 Representative - Roman Shantsila
As Cohort 5 representative, Roman gathers the feedback, concerns, and suggestions from his peers to bring along to SSLC meetings. He also communicates outcomes or changes back to his cohort and ensures academic needs and issues are addressed, contributing to a positive learning environment.

As Cohort 6 representative, Gianluca gathers the feedback, concerns, and suggestions from his peers to bring along to SSLC meetings. He also communicates outcomes or changes back to his cohort and ensures academic needs and issues are addressed, contributing to a positive learning environment.
Cohort 6 Representative - George Simmons
As Cohort 6 representative, George gathers the feedback, concerns, and suggestions from his peers to bring along to SSLC meetings. He also communicates outcomes or changes back to his cohort and ensures academic needs and issues are addressed, contributing to a positive learning environment.
SSLC Administrator - Jin Kang
As SSLC administrator, Jin organises meetings, prepares and circulates documents, and tracks action points. She also supports with the smooth communication between staff and student reps and helps to ensure the committee runs efficiently.
