NIHR Applied Research Collaboration West Midlands

Two fully funded, full time, three-year PhD studentships are available in Warwick Medical School from September 2020. These include fees and monthly stipend based on the Research Councils recommended rate – for details see: https://www.ukri.org/skills/funding-for-research-training/ .The studentships are part of the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration West Midlands (ARC WM). ARC WM is a £9 million, five-year initiative which started in October 2019. We have a mission to create lasting and effective collaborations across health and social care organisations, universities and local authorities by using research to improve the services we deliver across the West Midlands and further afield. The increasing demand for social care and the vital role of public health are key to many of the ARC’s projects as we search for the best and most effective ways to maintain the health and independence of our/the population.

Applications for these studentship are invited, focusing on one of the following topics:

1. The challenges facing small-medium organisations in supporting health and wellbeing initiatives in the workplace?

2. How can knowledge needed to evaluate health technologies be produced, exchanged and applied in politically changing environments?

3. What has been the uptake, use and impact of HTA research evidence disseminated by the NICE Technology Appraisal programme from 2012 to 2017?

4. How can co-production be implemented in the ARC WM as a test bed for the wider NIHR? How can co-production be operationalised?

5. Improving communication about self-harm in schools through developing a theory and evidence-based (digital) intervention aimed at teachers.

6. Improving health and wellbeing for people with intellectual disability and their caregivers.

Entry Requirements:

Studentships are available to support any students up to a stipend of £15,374 pa and fees equivalent to a value of £4,345 pa. Applicants should have a strong first degree (2:1 or above) or international equivalent in a relevant subject (refer to the equivalent scores table to map an international degree onto the British system). Previous research experience is an advantage.

Contact details for two academic referees should be provided. Professional references provided by your current or most recent line manager are acceptable if you have been out of higher education for over two years.

The English language requirement for PhD in Medical Sciences, MSc by Research Medical Sciences, PhD in Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research and PhD in Molecular Biomedicine is Band A.

The English language requirement for all other research degrees is Band B.
