UHBFT Staff 'Big Data' Competition

The competition is open to anyone working at UHBFT with an interest in, but not necessarily any previous experience of, research.

We are encouraging proposals which use some of the vast range of existing ‘big data’ on healthcare; specifically Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) data and Office for National Statistics (ONS) data. Further information on these data sources can be found here: www.hscic.gov.uk/hes and www.ons.gov.uk/ons/taxonomy/index.html?nscl=Health+and+Social+Care

Prizes of £100 and £50 of Amazon vouchers will be awarded to the top two proposals received. The aim is to assist the applicants with the best proposals to produce an academic article, so the CLAHRC WM will provide support to devise a methodology and methods for the project and assistance with writing it up, and the Health Informatics department at UHBFT will provide assistance with gathering and manipulating the data.

To apply, all we are asking is that applicants clearly outline their research proposal (and any data sources they intend to use if these are already identified) and why the topic is of interest to them and others in 400 words or less and email this via the CLAHRC WM website. A panel comprising representatives from CLAHRC WM and UHB Informatics will review entries and invite applicants who submitted the most interesting entries to a face-to-face meeting to understand and discuss their ideas in more detail.

The closing date for the competition is Friday 2nd October 2015. Please submit your entries to clahrc at warwick dot ac dot uk. For any queries relating to the competition please email Paul.Bird@uhb.nhs.uk
