Supporting parents of children with medical complexities
Investigate views of children, adolescents and parents on health and behaviour change advice delivered in the hospital to inform theoretically and empirically-based interventions.
Parents play a key role in the health care of their children, and a number of research projects are considering what support parents might need.
Birmingham Children’s Hospital has prioritised the development of a hospital based effective parenting intervention to support parents of children with medical complexity. An intervention mapping approach is being used in this research. This involves a scoping review of interventions, and further systematic review as needed, a qualitative study of parent and stakeholder experience and views following which an intervention development will be developed and piloted.
