Supporting parents of children experiencing healthcare transitions

Parents play a key role in the health care of their children, and a number of research projects are considering what support parents might need.

Building on existing research expertise in transition, parents’ experiences and support needs are also being considered as children grow up. A systematic review and thematic synthesis of parents’ experiences of parenting a child with chronic illness as they transition into adulthood has laid some of the ground work for further research into parents’ needs and interventions that might support them, as has a qualitative study of parents caring for adolescents with long-term conditions.
