The BEEM trial is a randomised cluster-controlled trial across the Black Country Local Maternity System (four NHS Trusts) to evaluate the knowledge of community midwives regarding Place of Birth choices for healthy low-risk women. The trial compares a standalone E-Learning package against one combined with additional support from a lead midwife. Our original work to develop, implement and evaluate the package to support community midwives, showed improved knowledge and confidence amongst community midwives. This training will potentially support implementation of national policy to give clear unbiased information to low risk women about their place of birth options. In the current COVID-19 pandemic the project is halted, but we are hoping to restart it when clinical care returns to normal.
