Why is Patient and Public Involvement Important?

Patients are at the heart of why we do research. Primary care research provides patients better access to improved treatments, interventions, medicines and cost-effective healthcare. Ultimately it improves patient care and life expectancy. Involving patients in all aspects of the research process will increase their knowledge of research; help to optimise the patient experience and their access to studies. Patients and members of the public are best placed to comment on research that involves them. For researchers, patients can offer valuable insights into the barriers that can affect successful recruitment.
