What is Life-sciences Industry Research

Life-sciences industry research, also known as industry research, is the term used to mean clinical trials and studies that are paid for and run by life-sciences industries such as pharmaceutical and medical technology companies. Pharmaceutical companies are often called drug companies. The Government and the NIHR want to support industry research because it gives patients access to new treatments and brings resources both into the NHS and the UK economy.

The CRN:WM supports industry research in various ways. Currently four GP practices in our area are directly involved in carrying out industry trials. We are expanding this with a new developmental scheme, combining primary and secondary care teams, in which patients may be recruited to industry studies by their GP but are then seen by specialist hospital staff to carry out the research.
