This image shows the microtubule network (in black) in a cell. Microtubules are tiny components of a cell that form part of the cytoskeleton (the structure that supports the cell). They also support transport around the cell, acting like tiny railway lines that allow proteins (known as motors) to move around the cell delivering important molecules and information. Studying how they behave in different cell types can aid in understanding how conditions such as muscular dystrophy occur, or how cells can become more motile, which could be dangerous in the context of cancer.
