Module Aims

This module has been developed to enable students to develop their skills at integrating psychological theory with clinical practice.

The purpose of this module will be to complement the content modules of the MSc course by providing a venue for analysis, reporting, and group discussion of clinical case studies. It will build upon the theoretical teaching and learning associated with the other taught modules by using real life clinical cases to demonstrate how psychological theory is utilised when working in a range of clinical settings.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to consider how a range of psychological factors can affect how an individual functions
  • Critically consider how academic theory can be applied to clinical case histories
  • Demonstrate a basic level of skills at formulating clinical presentations including consideration of a range of contextual factors
  • Demonstrate the ability to theoretically use that formulation to identify the basic premise for psychological intervention
  • Apply their knowledge of outcome research to critique the clinical management of clinical cases
  • Detect and analyse the uniqueness of the perspective psychological clinicians can bring to case histories

All Learning Objectives are assessed by all elements of the assessment.
