IAPER Project
Improving Access and Participation in Engineering Research (IAPER) Project
The IAPER Project, led by WMG’s Dr Freeha Azmat and co-led by Dr Mark Elliott from WMG and Professor Joanna Collingwood from the School of Engineering, aims to showcase successful women in STEM from underrepresented backgrounds.
The project provides increased opportunities for female students to experience research projects, and also offers a programme of inspirational guest lectures with speakers from underrepresented backgrounds.
In 2022-23, IAPER has provided internship opportunities for students from a range of STEM disciplines, including Physics, Computer Science, Maths, and Engineering.
If you have any questions about the project, please contact Dr Freeha Azmat.
Applications for 2022-23 are now closed
The new IAPER Internship Scheme is designed for female undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to gain more experience in engineering research. It is specifically targeted at female UG and PGT students in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Medicine, with the aim to provide increased opportunity to experience research projects for this under-represented group in engineering research, and ultimately improve the gender balance within our PhD and post-doctoral populations.
These are paid internships and students will be paid a stipend of £1,750 for an eight-week internship. The eight-week internship can be completed flexibly between the end of the spring term, through to 31st July 2023. If you have any questions about the internships, please contact Dr Freeha Azmat.
