EAP Aims and Assessments

The programme is designed for teachers wishing to develop a better theoretical and practical understanding of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) in higher education settings. The course provides an opportunity for teachers to work alongside experienced EAP teachers and trainers, to investigate key issues in the design and delivery of EAP courses, and to develop and practise skills in their own areas of teaching. This 120 hour, 4-week face-to-face programme will take place in the summer of 2023.

Participants will learn about current best practice in English language teaching and its theoretical underpinnings. Materials and tasks will offer guidance and raise critical awareness of current issues and challenges in the field. Participants will have the opportunity to consider their own teaching contexts and to select appropriate pedagogical frameworks and materials in the planning and delivery of an aspect (s) of teaching EAP in their own classrooms. Participants will prepare the following:

  • A personal assignment: Focusing on an aspect of their own teaching practice, trialling ideas through microteaching workshops with peers.
  • A written submission: To produce a lesson plan which includes a short rationale for their chosen teaching focus.
