Neil Murray - Professor and Director of English Language and Short Courses

Neil has over 35 years’ experience directing and lecturing on English language education and applied linguistics programmes in Italy, Japan, the UK and Australia. He teaches and supervises MA and PhD students in areas relating to English language teaching and his current research interests include English language policy and practice in higher education, language assessment, English for academic purposes, and English as a medium of instruction.

Penny Mosavian - Associate Professor & Director of Studies – Short Courses

Penny is responsible for the design, development, teaching and evaluation of a range of bespoke short course programmes. She has a special interest and expertise in teacher training and professional development. Her other areas of interest include educational leadership, strategic management, curriculum design and managing of resources. As a member of the University’s Technology Enhanced Teaching forum, she trains groups on the use of technology for teaching and learning, and more recently, transitioning teaching to online delivery.

Miriam Schwiening - Associate Professor & Director of Studies – Short Courses

Miriam has been teaching EAP and English language for 25 years and has been working at the University of Warwick since 2017, teaching EAP to post-graduate and foundation students. She has worked as a main course tutor for Cambridge English, leading on CELTA courses since 2012. Her academic interests include internationalisation of the curriculum, with a particular focus on collaboration between EAP practitioners and discipline lecturers in course design and teaching. She is also interested in the use of IT to enhance learning and teaching for students from non-English speaking backgrounds.

Lynnette Richards - Associate Professor – Short Courses

Lynnette has been involved in ELT for 35 years, teaching and directing a wide range of courses at language schools, FE colleges and UK universities. She currently teaches and supervises students on the Masters in TESOL and Intercultural Communication, and is also involved in writing and teaching on sessional and short courses. She is a CELTA teacher-trainer and is interested in practitioner research. Her other research interests include intercultural pragmatics and teaching EAP.
