learning resources
In this example the student teacher produced learning resources help guides for learners and uploaded them to the VLE Frog. This had the advantages that pupils could view the help sheet in one window why working on a problem in the other. The help sheets were more detailed and contained more diagrams than would normally have been the case. Pupils still needed peer and teacher support where necessary but the teacher reported feeling less pressure on him to demands on him for trouble shooting problems and fund the resources easier to manage.
Following from this innovation the teacher became used to creating a wider range of resources for pupils for example a web site containing links to resources and simplifying the process of and for assessment purpose to create zip files of work in progress which were sent to the teacher for annotation and other forms of feedback.
Steve and Year 8
Steve was working with a of 21 Year 8 class who were building websites in HTML. The class needed to add some specific features prior to assessment. Steve saw the opportunity to use create help-sheets to enable them to complete this work and upload them into the recently introduced Frog system..
Steve: I hoped this would not only save paper but allow me to divide the help-sheets into short specific topics making them more useful to the pupils. I planned to evaluate the impact of my implementation by:
• Watching how many pupils accessed the help-sheets.
• Noting the number of pupils who asked for help in accessing the help-sheets.
• Noting the number of pupils who asked questions they could have found the answers to on the help-sheets.
This resulted in the majority looking at the help-sheets at some point; one pupil was helped by a neighbour to access the sheets and five asking questions to which the answer was on the sheet.
Steve commented that:
Over-all I think this was a successful improvement in the method used to share files
with the pupils.
