RSS feeds

At this school the VLE was able to be used but staff were awaiting training. Kim, working with a class of Y8, decided to introduce RSS feeds using the VLE. Firstly she dealt with the issue that not all of them understanding what a RSS feed is. Once they understood, the students were enthusiastic to participate in the project and Kim showed them how to add feeds to their VLE area.

Kim: ...all students however were very enthusiastic in using the VLE to personalise their space with the RSS feeds. One student in particular had a great idea but came across a problem with the website not having an RSS feed she went home and came back with This was fantastic as I could tell that this student fully understood how to set up an RSS feed, and the purpose of the RSS feed.

 To achieve higher levels students needed to show me they understood the purpose of RSS feeds, therefore they had another exercise to search for relevant RSS feeds that would be appropriate for them to implement within their VLE. The students gave some great examples.

 ....all students created one RSS feed most created more than one, and some created more than one relevant RSS feed to put into their VLE. The lesson was very enthusiastic and the students really enjoyed using the VLE.
