Evaluation of Tablet Pcs in Specialist Schools

This project involved trialing the use of Tablet PCs in six schools in the West Midlands. CeNTRE was asked to carry out an evaluation and report back to schools and the Specialist Schools Trust. It was found that teachers and pupils were positive about the use of Tablets and that Tablets offer significant support for teaching and learning because of their portability, stylus control and handwriting recognition. However it was suggested that within this time limited project some schools face a major challenge in establishing reliable wireless networking and there are wider pedagogical challenges in adopting new technology. The report drew together implications for the further use and development of Tablet PCs to support teaching and learning in school.
