Children's Interpretation of Graphs within a Computer Based Pedagogy

This project emerged out of earlier work by the same researchers into the use of portable machines in a local primary school. The project aimed to explore in more detail a pedagogy they have called active graphing.

In this approach, young children (Key Stage 2) carry out experiments involving bivariate data in which the value of independent variable is determined from the ongoing results as presented in a spreadsheet. The project found that even young children who had not previously engaged with scatter graphs were able to intuit how to use spreadsheets to draw conclusions about their experiments.
