DEAR Centre Flagship Project, WAHEI, UK Visit: Developing Higher Education Outreach Module with Academics from India

Widening Access to Higher Education in India: Institutional Approaches is a four year a collaborative research project (2022-2026) led by the Centre for Education Studies (Co-PI Emily Henderson) & Law School (Co-I Ann Stewart) at Warwick, and the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA, India) (Co-PI Nidhi Sabharwal).

As this research study unfolds to its second phase, ten team members from four different states in India, along with Co-PI Nidhi Sabharwal, attended a weeklong visit to the University of Warwick to develop a professional learning module for faculty members in India about higher education outreach.

The activities of this week-long visit centred around co-developing a higher education outreach module for professional learning, which is to be piloted in India during the later part of the year. During this visit, the WAHEI team engaged with existing approaches to widening access in the UK and India. The team substantially engaged with the widening participation team at Warwick and University of East Anglia. Further, WAHEI team members had a field day at Fircroft College, Birmingham and participated in an Open day at Warwick to further facilitate the team's contextual thinking and to experience and discuss varied models, support and approaches to higher education outreach initiatives.

This research project is supported by the Fair Chance Foundation, and this visit included support from the ESRC IAA fund and SELCS Impact Case Study Development Fund.
