WAHEI project Co-PI appointed to national task force by the Supreme Court of India
WAHEI project Co-PI Dr Nidhi Sabharwal has been recognised at the highest level in India, being appointed to a national task force set up by the Supreme Court of India following its recent judgment in Amit Kumar & Ors. v. Union of India. The case concerned specifically the suicide of two students studying at high profile higher education institutions in India, but raised wider concerns relating to the challenges faced by students from disadvantaged and marginalised groups.
Nidhi is a National Fellow at the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi, India and honorary visiting faculty in Warwick's Education Studies department, where the WAHEI project is based.
This honour is due to Dr Sabharwal's internationally recognised research on the role of caste and gender-based discrimination, as well as forms of inter-group inequalities more generally, within higher education. Nidhi, along with Professor Ann Stewart (Law) and Professor Emily Henderson (Education Studies), have been working together for a number of years on projects relating to the challenges faced by disadvantaged young women and men who are the first in their families to access higher education in India, which includes the WAHEI project.
Congratulations, Nidhi, from everyone at the WAHEI project on your incredible appointment to the National Task Force, as constituted by the Supreme Court of India.
