CTE earns top grade in recent iQTS inspection
The Centre for Teacher Education has achieved Grade 1 (highest grade) in a recent inspection by Penta International (a Department for Education-approved iQTS inspectorate).
The inspection found that the quality of leadership and management and the quality of the programme design and delivery exceed requirements and are exceptional.
Andy, Head of Department, is thrilled with the result and celebrates CTE colleagues for their hard work.
“We are delighted that the recent inspection report has recognised the high-quality iQTS courses at The University of Warwick. Our Grade 1 award reflects the quality of teaching and learning on the programme and this was highlighted by students on the course and the mentors with whom they work. The report also highlights the exceptional leadership and management of the course in ensuring that the student experience reflects the fantastic opportunities to develop teachers in all parts of the world”.
Dr Andy Hind, Head of Department
CTE’s PGCE International with QTS programme (iQTS) was assessed on three elements: Compliance of provision with the iQTS criteria, quality of leadership and management and quality of programme design and delivery.
The inspection identified several areas of strength of CTE’s iQTS programme. These strengths highlight CTE’s ability to provide trainees with exceptional support, knowledge and experience during their programme. Some of the key strengths identified are:
- Detailed and relevant information provided to trainees during induction and through regular updates throughout the course supports their progress.
- Evidence-based and responsive training programmes for both trainees and mentors provide relevant materials and opportunities for collaborative learning.
- The quality of mentoring provided to trainees based on skilled observation and coaching techniques supports trainees in developing their practice.
- High standards of classroom teaching achieved by trainees as a result of a strong training programme and robust mentoring practices.
- The responsiveness, flexibility and personalised nature of support provided by tutors and other university staff for trainees and mentors both on a regular basis and according to individual needs.
The results of this inspection showcase the experience, commitment, and drive of CTE staff to offer an exceptional programme for trainees, enabling them to flourish in their careers.
