The University of Warwick's Centre for Teacher Education Receives Outstanding Ofsted Grade
The University of Warwick’s Centre for Teacher Education (CTE) has received a glowing report following a recent Ofsted inspection, highlighting the exceptional quality of training and support provided to its teaching trainees. The inspection report underscores the University’s commitment to nurturing future educators who are well-prepared and passionate about their careers.
The Ofsted report praises the University for offering trainees "the best possible start to their teaching career" and acknowledges the Centre for Teacher Education's success in supporting trainees to develop into practitioners who are equipped to pursue a lifelong career in education. The inspection highlighted that "strong partnership working is the hallmark of this partnership," ensuring a cohesive and supportive training environment.
The core values of social justice, intellectual curiosity, and creativity are deeply embedded in the curriculum at the University of Warwick’s Centre for Teacher Education. The report notes that "trainees live and breathe these values in their daily classroom practice," and that these values are increasingly influencing partnership schools, creating a broader impact within the educational community.
A significant strength noted in the report is the seamless integration of centre-based training and school-based placements. This harmonious approach "provides trainees with exceptional levels of support and guidance so they can be the ‘best teacher they can be’." The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience ensures that trainees are well-prepared for the demands of the teaching profession.
The report also commends the University for its robust pastoral support system, offering a "multi-layered menu of pastoral support to help any trainees who are struggling with the demands of the course." Trainees have expressed their appreciation for this support, which plays a crucial role in their overall well-being and success.
Ofsted highlighted the exceptional teaching provided to trainees, noting that they are "taught exceptionally well to look beyond their teaching and see the impact it has on pupils’ learning." This approach equips trainees to teach their respective subjects effectively across different educational phases. Furthermore, trainees demonstrate a clear understanding of adaptive teaching methods, which supports a wide range of pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
The University of Warwick is proud of the positive recognition from Ofsted, which reflects the dedication and hard work of both staff and trainees. The Centre for Teacher Education remains committed to continuing its mission of developing outstanding educators who will shape the future of education.
Dr Andy Hind, Head of Department, is thrilled with the result of the inspection:
“I am delighted to be able to share the outcome of our PGCE provision’s recent inspection by Ofsted. Beyond the excellent overall judgement, it is fantastic to see the relentless work of the team in CTE recognised by the inspectors for the value it brings to PGCE students at Warwick and more importantly, through our strong partnership, to schools and children in the region. The team at CTE is proud of their work and it is brilliant to see that recognised in this report”.
