At Green Space 2023 trainees worked in groups using Padlet to create a scheme of learning for a particular year group that engaged with an aspect of climate education. Here are a selection of their responses across Early Years, Primary and Secondary.

Padlet

What is it

Padlet enables you to create online boards where students, tutors and colleagues can share and collaborate. Select from a variety of board types: wall, shelf, canvas, stream, timeline, map and grid.

Padlet is fun, interactive and versatile. Post text, multimedia, files, audio recordings, locations and more. Use Padlet to facilitate discussions, group work, Q&A, idea gathering, resource sharing, and thought mapping.

Interactivity options include the ability to comment, like, and upvote/downvote posts. Allow students to post anonymously to increase engagement and participation, or enable attribution to see who is posting. Moderator settings available.

How to use

Click on Log in with Microsoft.
Enter your email address in this format: username@live.warwick.ac.uk (e.g. u1234567@live.warwick.ac.uk).
Enter your University IT account username (e.g. u1234567).
Enter your University IT account password.
Complete two-step authentication.
Your account has been created. Welcome to Padlet.

Exemplar- a worked example

Jake Lever has created an exemplar using Padlet, selecting the wall layout with shelves, indicating the structure and content of the work we are looking for. It takes Year 8 Art and Design as an example, but it can be adapted to all subjects and year groups. (This Padlet is set to read only).

To copy this padlet click on the in the right-hand pane and select 'Remake'. Name it after your Group name and then 'Copy link to clipboard'. Alternatively you are welcome to create a padlet from scratch (please see guidance below). Once ready you can share the link you copied by pasting it into the Moodle upload section (see below).

Please ensure that you have set your padlet privacy settings to 'public'. <Share, Change Privacy, Public>

Creating a padlet

Sign in to Padlet through University of Warwick.
In your Padlet Dashboard click on Make a padlet.
Select a padlet format from the options. See some examples in the Padlet Gallery. (This a padlet which shares links to other padlets, so click on the posts to open other examples.)
Your padlet will then open with an editing or Modify panel open on the right-hand side.
In this tab, give your padlet a title and description.
There are also other options to customise the appearance of your padlet in this menu. Please consider accessibility guidelines when making changes.
Under Posting you can also allow students to comment or react to posts. If you want student comments to remain anonymous, switch off Attribution.
The Content filtering options offer you a profanity filter and/or an option to require approval before posts to the padlet are made visible to other users.
Once you have chosen all your padlet settings, at the top of the panel click Close.

Posting

Add a post by double clicking in any of the blank space of the padlet or by clicking the plus symbol in the right-hand corner.
You can include text, image, weblinks and other various media options in posts. To see examples of these, see the Get Inspired tab on this page.
Click the ellipsis icon in the top right of the post for further options such as changing the colour of a post or connecting it to other posts.

Submission

You can submit the link to, or a PDF version of your Padlet, by clicking on the 'Submit now' button below. This will redirect you to the Moodle space.

Please ensure that you have set your padlet privacy settings to 'public'. <Share, Change Privacy, Public>

To download a PDF version of your Padlet, go to Share options in your Padlet and scroll down to 'Export'.

Copyright-free images

The Creative Commons licensing scheme allows authors to permit the use or reproduction of their image(s) through offering six different levels of permissions, which are outlined in the next chapter.

Good places to search for Creative Commons material include: 

CC Search -  Creative CommonsLink opens in a new window allows you to search across a number of websites which may contain Creative Commons material (but don’t assume that all the results displayed in this search portal are under a CC licence) 
FlickrLink opens in a new window is an image hosting site that allows registered users to store, sort and share photos online. Select the any license dropdown to choose a licence type; the suggested option is Commercial & mods allowed as this allows you the most freedom to reuse the images. The Flickr CommonsLink opens in a new window contains images that have been digitised by some of the world's leading museums and libraries, all of which have 'no known copyright restrictions'. 
The Artstor Digital LibraryLink opens in a new window is a growing database of images and rare collections from museums worldwide. Please note that whilst the Library has access to full ArtStor content, most of it is not licensed under CC licences. If you are re-using content, please ensure that it is from the freely available “Public” and “OpenArtStor”. 
EuropeanaLink opens in a new window is a large collection of digitalised items, including photos, maps, artwork and music, also featuring special thematic collections (e.g. on World War I, sports, music).

Wikimedia CommonsLink opens in a new window is a collection of nearly 90 million freely usable media files.
